World Space Week 2024

At Space North East England, we are proud to align with this year’s World Space Week theme: “Space & Climate Change.” This global event highlights the crucial role space technologies play in addressing environmental challenges. Here in the North East, we’re making strides in this sector, harnessing our engineering expertise and fostering partnerships to develop cutting-edge satellite systems and communication tools essential for climate monitoring.

Our region has long been a hub for innovation, with strong ties to advanced manufacturing, technology, and aerospace. This is why the North East is uniquely positioned to contribute to space research, especially in satellite data collection, a vital tool in understanding climate change. Through collaborations with global leaders and regional experts, we are developing new ways to track environmental shifts, monitor deforestation, and improve disaster response efforts.

The space sector in our region is also generating significant economic benefits. The investment in space technology has led to the creation of new businesses, job opportunities, and skill development programs, all of which boost our local economy and keep the North East at the forefront of space-related innovation. From start-ups to established companies like Filtronic, the North East’s space industry is growing rapidly, and World Space Week provides an excellent opportunity to showcase our contributions to the global fight against climate change.
