The National Space Operations Centre (NSpOC) protects UK interests in space and on Earth and works with international partners to ensure space remains safe, sustainable and accessible to all.
In August 2024, the UK's National Space Operations Centre (NSpOC) monitored rising space risks. They tracked 89 uncontrolled re-entries and 2,137 potential satellite collisions, both significant increases. A rocket body also fragmented, producing 250+ debris pieces. Space weather was active, with solar flares causing radio blackouts and geomagnetic storms that may have impacted satellites. SpaceX launched 112 more Starlink satellites, contributing to a total increase of 595 registered space objects.
