Six members of the Space North East England network have been highlighted in a new government study examining the scale and capabilities of the UK semiconductor sector.
The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology’s Semiconductor Sector Study 2026 recognises aXenic, Filtronic, ISOCOM, Nascent Semiconductor, Newcastle University and Viper RF as part of North East England’s semiconductor and advanced electronics cluster.
North East semiconductor technology for space and satellite applications
Semiconductors are essential to satellite communications, sensing, navigation, Earth observation and many other space technologies. The study identifies space and satellite applications as an area of strength for UK-headquartered semiconductor companies.
It highlights the North East’s capabilities in compound semiconductor RF and millimetre-wave components, photonics and optoelectronics for space and aerospace.
